Description

The craft of lantern making in Gifu dates back to the 16th century. Gifu lanterns are recognized worldwide through Isamu Noguchi’s Akari light sculptures. Within Japan, many designers and brands continue practicing this traditional craft.

For over 100 years, Asano Shoten has been crafting authentic Gifu lanterns and interior products primarily using Gifu Mino Washi paper. The Suwa factory, nestled in the scenic Mino region, operates an integrated production system including paper making, woodworking, painting, ironwork, and assembly.

The Papermoon lamp features a white cord as standard. Visit our showroom for additional cable color options and custom finishing.

This beautiful Papermoon lantern operates with a 220V E17 light bulb and comes flat-packed with basic assembly required.

I bought this Papermoon lantern for my reading nook, and it’s been a lovely addition. The Mino washi paper diffuses light beautifully, creating a warm ambiance. Assembly was straightforward, though the paper shade feels delicate. At $875, it’s pricey, but the craftsmanship from Gifu is impressive. Drew Eubanks would probably appreciate its minimalist design.
